We stopped at one last waterfall, which at this point we were a bit over them and I think out of the whole experience that's the only thing I would change, too many waterfall breaks. I thought that we would have trekked more than we did, I believe that the first day was about 5 km, the second day 7km and the third maybe 4km so all in all it wasn't too strenuous which is probably better for my back anyway. After the waterfall break we walked to a mini market where you could shoot a cross bow and also there was a Karenni Long-Neck Tribe that you could pay to see, Vee had an interest in seeing it so she paid to go in.
Next to the market there was a guys house and his pet baby monkey was chained up where people could go see her and play with her. At first I thought about how mean it was to have this monkey tied up but really back home we tie up dogs, so I guess it's just a difference in preference of personal pet. Apparently this little monkey doesn't like woman for some reason and a girl in another group didnt know this of course, so she tried to pet her and the monkey bit her hand. She had to pour iodine all over the bite and her and her friends were talking about if she should go get a rabies shot for it and we had two graduated med students in our group so they told her to absolutely go get one (duh... Better safe than sorry).
After watching this hyper monkey for a little bit we walked about 10 minutes to a truck, hopped on and he brought us to the bamboo rafting starting point. When Liber told us that we were going to go rafting my mind immediately went to the thought of white water rafting which wasn't going to help my back situation. Thankfully it ended up being probably the furthest thing from that and was pretty calm and leisurely. We sat 4 per raft on long bamboo sticks tied together with one guide/driver who directed the raft with his long and thin bamboo stick that he would stick into the ground to control it. This dude was a ninja in his past life for sure because at one point while going down the river there was a tree laying across the water which was high enough for us to slip right under while being seated on the raft but our guide was standing so what next? I yelled out "hey!! are you going under or over?" Next thing we know he plants his bamboo stick into the ground, pole vaults onto the huge laying tree and jumps over to the other side back on our raft... It was ninja material I swear.
The bamboo rafting was an hour ish long then we hopped off and had pad thai for a late lunch around 2pm. Unfortunately this was the last of our time spent with Liber, we were getting used to having his smiling face around all the time, but now it was time for the driver to bring us all back to our hotels. So after goodbyes and a short drive back we were back to civilization, we had our first shower in three days and changed into clean clothes. After cleaning up and relaxing a bit we were off to get dinner before meeting up with our trekking group for one last hang out sesh. We went to a vegetarian restaurant called taste of heaven, the food was decent but one thing made our dinning experience a little funnier, our sever was clearly a lesbian and when we paid our bill she wanted a picture with us before we left (I must've given it away with my Brixton hat because without me no one would ever know that Vee and I are together lol!), we thought it was cute.
After dinner we met up with the group, there was Delgham and Ezz from Denmark, Stephen from Ireland that lives in Vietnam, Rouyu from Taiwan, Vicky from Austria, Maryam and Matt from California and Romain and Pierre from France who either chose not to come or couldn't find us. Everyone (accept me and Delgham) had a drink, we chatted for a bit and got each other's Facebooks then all went to an Indian restaurant so all the meat eaters could have dinner. We decided to eat prior to because we figured that it would be easier for everyone if they didn't have to consider our pickiness in the restaurant choices, so everything worked out.
Kind of a funny story, Delgham and Ezz were telling us how as soon as they got dropped off that D absolutely wanted to get a haircut. They went into a place where the lady was a bit useless so Ezz ended up cutting his buddy's hair and so basically he paid 150 baht to cut his own hair while the lady was laughing at them...only in Thailand.
Dinner is over, good company and conversation was had and now we are back and ready for bed, goodnight errbody!
A bientot,
Janelle Brine
