Sama Sama

God this looks gross, but it was delish! Banana, guava, watermelon, coconut meat and ice!
Final product!

Sama Sama (Same same) is going on over here in Ubud! I bet lots of people reading my posts are thinking that they would get bored if they were being as useless as we've been lately. On the contrary, we love our time here and we are cherishing every moment like its our last!

Every day we mainly do the same things over and over again but at the same time it's seems like they're always different. I will state that Indonesians are quite entertaining, for example the other day we somehow got Carol's friend Wayan to climb a coconut tree for us purely for our entertainment. Wayan is in his 40's and climbed up this massive coconut tree on Carol's yard with not help of a rope or anything just him in his jeans?

It was nuts, he made it look so easy and then once he got up there he knocked a few coconuts down for us to enjoy. While he was up there we would spot a little head peek out every couple minutes, we had no idea what he was doing but it was an impressive skill he has. Once he made his way back to us, Jojo the construction dude opened a few up for us and we all overloaded on coconut water and meat.

When in Asia, have as many coconuts and fruits as you can because you'll never find the same quality again. It's definitely going to be weird to go home after being in Asia for so long, we've gotten used to eating 2-5 dollars meals at delicious restaurants and being spoiled with constantly amazing weather.

Yum yum!

I would without a doubt recommend to anyone and everyone to do this trip! Thailand and Bali have been our favourites so far and this won't be our last time visiting these countries. They are truly amazing places and the people here are nothing like we've ever seen. For the most part they're always smiling even though they work twice as hard and long as us westerners and they never complain they just do.

Life is much simpler in these countries although, they are starting to become more and more commercialized which is a bit upsetting to think about. Reason being that the westernization of these places takes away from their cultures and the beauty that lies within the simplicity of their ways of live as they know it.

Nothing is worse than seeing a McShit restaurant in the middle of a beautiful place like Bali. It's quite maddening that all these companies want is business expansion and to get as many people as possible on their disease causing products. Before the westernization Southeast Asia had never seen disease but now there's more heart attacks and diabetes than ever.

Little dude traveling the world with us, chillin by the coconut pool.
(You should be a proud parent #chanelleroy)

All I can say is that I feel very fortunate to be here now because even though it's already quite commercialized, there's still a large amount of beauty left to see. What's also a bit surprising to me is that when we left Kelowna I was so anxious to leave and felt the need of a break from Ktown. But now that we've been away I appreciate where I live so much and when people ask us about where we live there's really not many bad things to say about the Okanagan.

I mean like anywhere else there's always going to be some good things and bad things but for the most part Kelowna is pretty darn amazing. We get like 8-10 months of beautiful weather with 2-3 months of winter which we are lucky enough to only be a short hours away from a gorgeous ski hill. The summer is blazing hot and the lake is always breathtaking, which makes for boat and paddle board season to be long and enjoyable. The change of seasons is kind of nice actually, I mean I'm not as crazy about snow as I was during my snowboarding days but it's not so bad. At Least we don't see half the crappy weather that my friends and family see on the east coast (Sorry Mom, again..).

Self explanatory.

Anyway I'll just say that although I love it here and our travels have been life changing and amazing, I'm actually excited to be home this summer and be able to properly Crossfit again and just have a good time with our friends and family.

A bientot,
Janelle Brine
