It was a great day, everything here is so cool, big and innovative! From the airport to seeing an extremely tall building that had a ship on top of it to a huge ferris wheel that oversees the city when you hit the top.
We cabbed from the airport to our hostel called The Hive and saw endless rad things along the ride over. I was commenting on everything from the palm trees to the fact that I was a bit freaked out about driving on the other side of the road! Once we got to The Hive we got a little tour of the place and got brought up to our room, this place is wicked!
For 15$ a night we get each a single bed in a female shared dorm, along with access to free wifi, breakfast, printing services, luggage storage, coffee & tea all day, laundry services and overseas calls! Let me know if you've ever had all of that for 15 buckaroos!
After settling in a bit and having a shower after traveling for what felt like forever, we got our shit together and went on our first walk out in the city. The Hive is just a few blocks from Singapore's Little India therefore, we obviously had to head over there. Little India is apparently a replica of the real thing on an extremely small scale; we stopped at a vegetarian indian restaurant and had an awesome authentic vegan indian meal.
I won't lie I was a little weirded out at all the people around us eating with their hands, it was just so opposite of what we are taught of what is proper in Canada however, it was very cool to see a different culture and what is normal for them. I may have gotten yeld at because I had my foot on a chair and apparently that's a big no no.... oops! I'm sure the culture shock will settle in nicely sooner rather than later! I cannot wait to keep learning about different cultures and everything else that comes with it.
Following our wicked meal we went next door and got a fresh young green coconut opened up so we could drink the water inside and I'll be honest im usually not a huge fan of coconut water but this stuff was awesome! Veronica got the coco water and I got some sugar cane juice, where they basically shove a foot and a half long stick of fresh sugar cane through a big grinder/juicer.
This shit was on a whole other level of awesomeness, it was so good and I was so happy to finally be able to taste this since I had been wanting to for a long time through seeing my Youtube idols drinking in whenever they went to Asia.
After my wonderful sugar cane juice experience we walked back to The Hive and decided to have a "nap" (it's 6pm at this point), we all passed right the fawkkk out and didn't wake up until 4 am. We we're supposed to go see some attractions with Marleigh's friend that is also staying at the same hostel but..... we never woke up from our nap.
All in all Great first day!
A bientot,
Janelle Brine
