Ballin' in Bali

Mar 6th & 7th, 2015

View from Carol's house in Ubub.

Today and tomorrow we will be almost solely spending our time travelling to Bali. Knowing that our departure from the hotel wasn't until the afternoon, we waited to pack our stuff and did it this morning instead of last night.

After dicking around for a while and giving my hair a fresh buzz we got ready to get picked up to start our journey to Indonesia. Today's travels consisted of a bus to the ferry, a ferry to Surat Thani, a bus to the Surat Thani bus station, an overnight bus to Bangkok.

Tuk Tuk.

May I add that both longer bus rides we scored the best seats in the house. While this may not sound like a big deal, trust me when I say that after getting the shaft a few times and after travelling for a few months you learn that getting shitty seats for a 12 hour drive is far from even remotely ideal.

With our wicked seats we got to stretch our legs and sleep somewhat comfortably for the duration of the long and bumpy drive to Bangkok. Surprisingly enough it went by quite fast and before we knew it, it was 5 am and we were getting woken up by someone yelling at us to get off the bus (nothing new).

We step out of the bus to find our bags thrown into a pile on the ground and before even being able to gather all our things we were getting majorly harassed by taxi and Tuk Tuk drivers (talk about someone getting into your personal bubble, way too early in the morning!).

Flights, flights and more flights!

We needed to get to the DMK airport but there was still 6 hours until our flight. After debating for a good 20 minutes on what to do, we just gave up and got a taxi to the airport. It was more than about time for us to leave the taxi driver infested area because one of them was touching, rubbing and commenting on my tattoo non stop to try to get my attention.

Once at the airport we walked around and checked ourselves in then went out on a search to find something to eat (not easy to find vegan food in airports).

Are you guys ready? You're about to hear a miracle... We ate at McDicks...

..... Nothing to be said.

Now slow it down, I know that anyone who knows me well, knows that practically no situation could make me eat an animal product ( well not purposely anyway). We paid an outrageous amount for the puniest garden salads which we ate with two sides of plain rice each from a restaurant call Flaming Chicken? Ha!

Although it wasn't ideal and that there isn't much that I hate more than supporting useless companies like McDonalds, we had to eat something I guess. Shortly after eating we boarded our plane around 11am and off we went to Jakata, Indonesia (the amount of pumpedness that's being experienced right now is slightly overwhelming, but so awesome).

Once arrived in Jakarta and through Immigration we changed our Bahts into Rupiahs, were rich! Not actually but it's a bit weird to be walking around with 2.5 million of any kind of currency Ha!

Thanks for getting us to Bali safe Air Asia:)

With our millions we grabbed a bite and shortly there after we already had to head out to our gate where we would board our plane to Bali. We had a 2 hour flight that nearly took our lives (words of exaggeration by miss Veronica). Basically there was another plane on the runway that we were supposed to land on therefore, we had to fly back up and turn around to land once the other plane was gone.

We were in the middle of a conversation and suddenly the plane went from getting ready to land to going up in a split second. Once I got Vee to calm down everything was good and we landed safe and sound.

Edi! Carol's driver that picked us up.

It's so hard to believe that were actually here, you see pictures on Instagram and you can't help but day dream about this place but somehow the world came together for us this time and were here!

Following the gathering of our bags we walked out and Edi (Carol's driver) was waiting for us holding a sign with my name written on it, I will admit I felt quite special! Edi drove us to Carol's beautiful home where we reunited with her and after a bit of conversation it was time for our tired bodies to rest.

A bientot,
Janelle brine
