I'm really loving it here, especially staying at Carol's (Villa Lebah) and finally being somewhere long enough to get into somewhat of a routine. For the fourth morning in a row we've been to Ubud Fitness for our daily workout.
We always follow our workouts with the most unimaginably delicious breakfasts that Ubud has to offer. It's very rare to get anything disappointing here, everything leaves us extremely satisfied.
Yesterday after the workout we went to Alchemy to grab a fruit bowl, which ended up being amazing. Spirulina cashew yogurt, fresh fruit and dates, brought together to create a bowl filled with the perfect blend of flavours.
Once done we went back to the house to get cleaned up and decide what we were going to get up to for the rest of the day. Jay went to Starbucks and had a day for himself so Vee and I went to have lunch at Clear Cafe. As always there was loads of options for us and the food was unbelievable.
After lunch we walked downtown so Vee could make sure she's seen and touched every single piece of clothing in every store possible. God forbid we pass a store and not go inside (as I mentioned in previous blogs, everything is "cutie" which is a code word for let me go buy that).
Shopping was over about 4 hours later... Ok maybe not but close Ha! Before heading home I convinced Vee to sign up for a colon hydrotherapy with me. I got one when I lived in Toronto and the results were great so I thought we would get one here since it's cheaper than in Canada (she's still quite unsure about it but it's all good!).
Appointment booked and time to walk home so Vee, Carol, Novi and I can make our way to Mary-Kay's (Carol's friend) house for dinner. We ate the most amazing veggie curry with brown rice and edamame, all home cooked by a Balinese woman.
We chatted for a few hours, then shut'er down for the night, back at the house we packed up for our trip to the Gili islands tomorrow.
Rise and shine nice and early this AM, the alarm woke us up at 6 am and we caught our ride to the dock at 7 am. With our bags and Alchemy juice in hand we were ready for the some island time. After a one hour drive we got to the dock where I literally almost peed my shorts.
About halfway through the drive over I started to have to go pee and by the time we got there is was the life or death of my bladder. I was running around holding my breath trying not to pee myself and no one was letting me use their toilet. Finally I couldn't hold it in anymore so to avoid the end of my new shorts I pulled them down and squatted behind a wall. It was the most relieving thing I've ever experienced and prior to this relief was the most painful hunt for a damn toilet. Lesson learned, don't drink a litre of water and a litre of juice before hopping onto an hour drive.
Once I didn't feel like I was going to explode, we got directed to the dock where we boarded the speed boat that would bring us to Gili Air. There are three Gili islands, Air, Meno and Trawangan, some are quiet and some are full of parties. We decided to go to the quiet one first to ease our way back into the island life.
Leaving the Ubud rain and going to the sunny islands definitely felt good on our skin (also, Jay is determined to go home next week as the darkest winnipeger). Once on Gili Air we met 3 Canadians who helped us find a place to stay. They had been on this island for a few days but we're heading back to Gili T and invited us to go celebrate one of their birthdays the following day.
Since this island is quite the ghost town and not much is happening we agreed to stay tonight then grab a boat to Gili T in the morning. When we got settled into our bungalows we grabbed some food right away since we were all starving.
After lunch we really just chilled out until dinner time, there isn't much else to do here and we were all tired. We found a cute little place called Harmony Cafe which served us some awesome food to satisfy our large appetites.
With our full bellies we walked to the beach where Vee and Jay had a drink and its now time to snooze since we are planning on catching a early boat to the other island in the AM.
A bientot,
Janelle Brine
