March 14th & 15th, 2015
Between the three Gili Islands, Gili T is supposed to be the crazier one that's more of a party vibe than the others. We thought we'd try it out anyway and also we figured we could go out for our new Canadian friend's birthday.
We took the mid morning boat over to the other island, upon arrival we could already feel the difference in the vibe and busyness of this place. After choosing a sh!tty bungalow to stay in we left our bags and went exploring. There wasn't much to explore but the first Cafe we stumbled upon ended up being awesome and a staple during our two day stay on Gili T.
Towards the end of our exploring we ran into those Canadians we had previously met yesterday and they gave us the details for the outing tonight. From our two short encounters with these girls, we were starting to wonder what we had got ourselves into.
Before dinner we did a Vinyasa Flow Yoga class and we all agreed that it was such a great way to make us feel awesome and got us super hungry.
After an amazing dinner at Garden Cafe, the only vegetarian restaurant on the island, we headed back to our pathetic bungalow to clean up and get ready to go out. We're moving up in the world! We're actually going out for the first time since leaving Canada Ha! It's funny though because even once we arrived at the bar and feeling that party vibe around us, I still didn't really want to drink.
Followed by a bit of social pressure and good live music, I had a few drinks and was feeling slightly what Vee and I call "Drunky pants". When the bar started filling up a bit more, we all went onto the dance floor to bust a move of two. A few songs later, one of the singers pulled our friend onto the stage so the whole bar could sing her happy birthday.
Come to find out her birthday was 3 months ago and they were just fooling around and telling people it was her birthday that night. We were the only ones who knew the truth so we were laughing while everyone else was singing.
A few more songs passed, then Vee and I had had enough so we went back to the bungalow while everyone else stayed at the bar. When we got back to the room we realized how lame we were because it was only 12:30AM Ha! But you know what I LOVE being lame, theres no better feeling than a good nights sleep.
I was so mad in the morning too because I wasn't feeling as good as I had been previously, I looked at Vee and said I'm never drinking again! (This won't be the case but I was upset at the fact that drinking the night before had prevented me from waking up on time to do yoga).
After I got over being upset about drinking, we dragged our bodies out of bed and went to eat breakie at the Kayu Cafe. On the way back from the Cafe a local asked us if we wanted to go snorkelling, which usually we would say no but I remembered Serina telling us it was worth it on the Gilis.
So after deciding to do it, the dude informed us that the boat was leaving right away which meant we had about 2 minutes to get organized. We ran back to our room, got our bathing suits, grabbed some towels and got on the boat just on time (By just on time I mean everyone was totally waiting for us).
We stopped at two different spots around the islands and snorkelled with some beautiful fish and corrals. On the second stop the guide jumped in with us and brought us over to swim with sea turtles, they were stunning and probably the coolest thing I've ever seen. Before the last stop we got dropped off on Gili Air to eat lunch. Following lunch was our final stop where we swam with more sea life, then the boat made its way back to shore.
On our snorkelling trip we met some more Canadians which is so odd because we've literally met more of them on these islands than we have in the last 2 months. Mel and Alex from Ottawa joined us for dinner at Garden Cafe where we ate some good food and enjoyed each other's company. After dinner we packed'er in early since we were all super tired from our "late night" the night before, pathetic we are.
A bientot,
Janelle Brine
